Inaugural EKU Business Analytics Symposium Set for April 20

EKU's School of Business inaugural Analytics Symposium is set for Friday, April 20th. The event, to be held on campus in the Business and Technology Center, will feature industry experts from internationally recognized brands like Amazon, Disney, and Lexmark.

Students will have an opportunity to engage the speakers, as well as professionals from around the region, interactively in the Vice Atrium following the morning remarks.

College Dean Tom Erekson opens the Symposium at 8:00 a.m., which features keynote speaker Jonathan Beard, Senior Manager of Pricing and Revenue Management at Walt Disney Company in Orlando, Fla. Beard, who earned his Bachelor's degree from EKU in 1987, has been with Disney Parks & Resorts since 1998. He is responsible for the leadership, team development and decisions for theme park, resort, and cruise line pricing and revenue management for retail (merchandise) operations.

The half-day event also features Ms. Shauna Leis from Amazon and Mr. Preston Bakaric from Lexmark. Leis is Customer Service Operations manager for Amazon.com in Winchester, Ky., with a career spanning more than 22 years using data analytics tools and techniques to solve pervasive operational problems.

Bakaric is Hardware Operations Manager at Lexmark International in Lexington. In his current role, he is responsible for leadership of engineering teams that deliver and manage printer hardware modules, setting sourcing strategy, evaluation of supplier capability, and development of manufacturing processes, as well as monitoring ongoing operations performance and capacity.

Students will share the stage with special project presentations and collaborative research initiatives. The event is free and open to the public.
