Risk Management and Insurance Students Visit Lloyd's of London
Dr. Gardner’s UNP 300 students finished their course about London’s Insurance and Reinsurance Markets by spending time in London at the end of May. There, they visited insurance and reinsurance brokers, and Lloyd’s Syndicates underwriters who either are business partners with Kentucky based risks (e.g. equine, coal mining) or insurers (e.g. KEMI), or, address specialty risks not commonly underwritten in Kentucky like satellite risks. Select RMI Advisory Board Members and also, friends of the program helped arrange company visits, according to Dr. Gardner, who appreciates their help.
Students also learned how to navigate London’s Tube, visited several notable sites, and enjoyed a theatre performance. In total, seven students participated, along with Dr. Gardner, and chaperone Debbie Ellis. Dr. Juan Zhang also traveled along as an observer to learn more about teaching credit-bearing Study Abroad classes. This is one of two study abroad classes available through RMI.
