Rita Davis honored at retirement reception

Rita Davis

Dr. Rita Davis retired as Associate Dean of EKU's School of Business having served the University's students for 31 years.  Over 100 friends, family, and former colleagues gathered to honor her years of service at a reception held on May 9, 2013.

At the recent EKU retirement dinner, these remarks were made about her extraordinary career:

It would be easier perhaps to list the titles that Dr. Rita Davis hasn’t held at Eastern these past 30 years.  After all, she has been a much-honored classroom teacher … vice president for student affairs … associate vice president for enrollment management … associate and interim vice president for academic affairs and research … department chair … interim dean of the College of Business and Technology and, for the past two years, associate dean for our School of Business.

Whatever hat she was wearing at the time, Dr. Davis was always the model of class and professionalism and a fierce advocate for our students.

Her awards are numerous.  Among them: Outstanding Career and Technical Teacher Educator, as selected by the Kentucky Association of Career and Technical Education … and an award for Outstanding Service and Exemplary Professionalism and Enthusiasm in Teaching from the Kentucky Business Education Association, which she served a term as president.

The honors validate what we long have known:  whether she was at the front of a classroom or behind a desk, Dr. Davis always represented the best of EKU.

Dr. Davis, along with retiring faculty and staff from the College of Business and Technology, were also recognized at the Spring Semester Send Off luncheon.
