Roberson Named Dyer Excellence in Teaching Award Recipient
EKU's School of Business is pleased to announce the recipient of the Eleventh Annual Jack L. Dyer Excellence in Teaching Award. The recipient for 2013-14 is Dr. Mike Roberson, Professor of Management.
Nominations for the award were made by the Department Chairs for AFIS and MMIB. Nominees were reviewed by a three-member Selection Committee based on evidence of excellent classroom instruction. They also considered factors such as peer review of instruction, student evaluations of teaching performance, curriculum development, teaching load, and innovative teaching methods.
"Dr. Roberson’s primary focus is helping students succeed at EKU and in their future careers. He forms strong relationships with his students, and they remember him fondly after graduation and later in their careers. Without question, he is a student-centered faculty member," said Dr. Lana Carnes, Chair of the Department of Management, Marketing and International Business.
One of his students made the following comment, “Dr. Roberson is a great teacher. The group exercises leading up to group projects with Initech were fun but taught me a lot. The Initech project was very valuable, not just the assignment, but with people and how to work with a team. Dr. Roberson did a great job putting what we learned into real life situations. As a professor, Dr. Roberson is great, as a mentor, he is life changing.”
Dr. Roberson commented, "I am proud that our School of Business has this award – given annually – to recognize teaching excellence. As Jack Dyer is well known for saying, we have the opportunity to change lives; and it is important for us to remember the impact we can each have on our students, their families, and their communities. We have many fine, deserving teachers in our business school; and I am both honored and humbled to be announced as this year’s recipient. The award is especially meaningful to me because it was established by the Dyer family in honor of Jack Dyer. Jack is my friend and colleague and I had the opportunity to get to know him even better a number of years ago when we spent two weeks together traveling through China. So, I look forward to receiving the teaching award named after my friend who distinguished himself at EKU as a fine and dedicated teacher."
The School of Business will formally recognize Dr. Roberson during the annual Jack L. Dyer Excellence in Teaching Award Luncheon in August.
Dr. Roberson joined the business faculty 27 years ago and provided the leadership in the development of the BBA Human Resources Management Option. His primary focus is helping students succeed as they progress through their degree requirements and in their future careers.
In addition, he has begun a research stream that centers around student learning. He recently had an article published in the KBEA Journal regarding developing students’ leadership skills based on his research.
We are proud to have quality professors such as Dr. Roberson and pleased to recognize him for his efforts.
Congratulations to Dr. Mike Roberson for being selected as the recipient of the Jack L. Dyer Excellence in Teaching Award for 2013-14!
