Sarah Hendrix - Amazon Supply Chain HR professional speaks at Maroon SHRM Meeting

Supply Change, SHRM

Eastern’s Maroon Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management had the opportunity to listen to Sarah Hendrix speak on Tuesday, November 19th, 2019 at 3:30pm at the Business Technology Center in Room 003. Sarah is a graduate from Indiana University, was a student member of SHRM through college, and moved to Lexington, KY to work for Amazon immediately after graduation. She interned the summer of 2018 at Amazon, and received a job offer as a Senior Human Resource representative. She spoke on the topic of Supply Chain HR at Amazon. At first glance supply chain management and Human Resources do not appear to have a lot in common. Ms. Hendrix spoke about human resources issues and capabilities in an industry where distribution and logistics are critical to competitive success.  She reviewed the nature and criticality of hiring, orientation and socialization practices, corporate culture and careers at Amazon. On a personal level, Sarah shared how a supply chain HR lifestyle fits within her schedule, and how much she enjoys it. She also discussed issues related to her personal and professional transition from college to the working environment, and the twelve or so students in attendance very much appreciated her honesty. Her presentation concluded with a question and answer session and the student members gave her a gift for taking time out of her schedule to speak to the organization.

The final meeting of the fall term is scheduled for Tuesday 3 December at 3:30 in BTC 005.  If anyone has any questions about Maroon SHRM membership or the human resources program at EKU, please contact Professor Allen D. Engle, Sr., Maroon SHRM advisor at allen.engle@eku.edu.
